Natural gas outage on campus

A pipeline incident Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 8, has resulted in natural gas outages in the region, including LC State’s Lewiston campus. While the pipeline is expected to be repaired later today, it is unknown when natural gas will be restored. An email from President Pemberton was sent to faculty, staff and students on Thursday, Nov. 9. Key public updates from that communication are excerpted below.

热- Some buildings on campus have central heat that is not impacted by the outage and continue to operate as normal. Other areas of campus are being augmented by space heaters. Communal heated spaces are also being established. Residence hall students are advised to work closely with their resident assistants for support and information.

事件—— Athletic events this week will continue to be held in the P1FCU Activity Center. Discovery Day activities on Nov. 10-11也将继续. The Silverthorne Theatre is also expected to hold its Nov. 9-11 performances of “Twelfth Night.” Patrons are advised to dress warmly.

Those who teach via hands-on course/lab work (e.g.、技术 & Industrial classes) can use their discretion regarding in-person instruction and should communicate this decision directly with their students. LC State launches new cybersecurity management degree

刘易斯顿, Idaho – With the Idaho State Board of Education’s recent approval, 刘易斯-克拉克州立大学 will begin offering a bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity management, starting in the fall 2022 semester.

The college already offers a 10-credit certificate in cybersecurity.

According to a Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) report from October last year, the demand for cybersecurity jobs will grow by as much as 31 percent over the next decade, which is much higher than the average expected growth for all occupations.  The median pay for an information security analyst in 2020 was a little more than $100,1万美元一年, 根据美国劳工统计局.

The degree and certificate will be available fully online and uses a combination of computer programming, business management and cybersecurity classes. The degree focuses on industry needs and skills, while preparing students for high-demand careers in the field.

Students will learn a variety of concepts dealing with cybersecurity, including the basics of the computer side of security, 商业法律, 以及人际关系. Students will see how those areas work together to create a secure, 安全, and legal computer environment in today’s business world.

Students are able to use the Security Operations Center (SOC) on the LC State campus to apply their knowledge. There are two SOCs for students to use, including one on main campus and one at the Schweitzer Career & 技术教育中心. LC State’s SOCs are connected through the IRON network to SOCs at each of the eight Idaho institutions of higher education as well as the Idaho National Laboratory.

Students can complete the entire degree at LC State or they can enter the program for the final two years with an existing associate degree in cybersecurity or a closely related field, such as information assurance, networking or information technology. The degree path is also available to transfer students from two-year colleges that LC State has articulation agreements with.

The program will be part of the offerings from the Business & Computer Science Division at LC State.
